When you are wearing braces, flossing is a little different.

If you haven’t flossed before, expect the gums to be tender; they may also bleed a little at the beginning. This will go when you are flossing regularly.

How to floss:

1. 2.
3. 4.
  1. Firstly, thread the hard part of the superfloss beneath the wire. Pull it through past the fluffy part to the long narrow piece. This is what you will use to floss.
  2. Wrap the floss around your middle fingers only. Then use your index (first) fingers or thumbs to control the floss. Keep only a short space between your fingers so you can control it easily.
  3. Slide the floss between the teeth. When you reach the gum curve the floss around the tooth in a “c” shape.
  4. Gently slide the floss beneath the gumline. Stop when you feel a resistance. Bring the floss tight against the tooth and gently slide it down in a vertical motion along the side of the tooth. You should hear a squeak when the tooth is clean.

• Repeat this five or six times then bring the floss over to the adjacent tooth and repeat.
• Do this for each tooth using a clean section of floss each time.
